Branding and Market Expansion for Microenterprises under SMART Project

Under the World Bank-funded Sustainable Microenterprise and Resilient Transformation (SMART) Project, Enroute is working with PKSF to strengthen the branding, marketing, market access, product quality, and certification capacity of microenterprises across Bangladesh. The objective is to identify high-potential microenterprises and support them in improving product-market fit, developing stronger brands, accessing new markets, and increasing competitiveness across 13 priority sub-sectors.

Enroute has conducted a Baseline Survey for the Identification and Selection of High-Potential Microenterprises, assessing approximately 80,000 businesses against product potential, market readiness, growth prospects, and other criteria to identify around 700 microenterprises for targeted support. Enroute is also conducting a Market Demand and Consumer Insights Study to understand consumer preferences, target audiences, emerging trends, and market opportunities, providing the evidence base for sub-sector-specific branding and marketing strategies.

Based on these findings, Enroute is supporting selected microenterprises to develop stronger brand identities, including brand names, logos, packaging, and other visual elements, while expanding access to traditional and digital marketing and distribution channels. The assignment also covers product improvement, sustainable production practices, eco-friendly packaging, quality assurance, and product certification. In parallel, Enroute is supporting targeted marketing campaigns, e-commerce and modern retail access, strategic partnerships, and participation in trade fairs to expand market reach and visibility. An activity monitoring and results evaluation system is being established to track implementation, sales performance, and market outcomes.
