Under Swisscontact’s Katalyst programme, Enroute implemented a market-systems assignment to reduce post-harvest losses in vegetables, farmed fish, and maize by improving packaging, handling practices, and commercial linkages. Working across Bogra, Jessore, Bhairab, and Mymensingh, the assignment covered 53 districts and 421 upazilas.
For short-distance vegetable transport, Enroute developed eight improved bamboo basket prototypes and trained producers, retailers, and wholesalers to strengthen production and supply. Through demonstrations and market linkages, the intervention reached around 62,400 vegetable farmers via 281 basket producers and 156 retailers across 100 haats in 29 districts.
For long-distance transport, Enroute partnered with RFL Plastic Limited and Bengal Polymer Wares Limited to design and promote improved plastic crates. Campaigns reached approximately 116,400 fish farmers and 12,240 vegetable farmers, generating orders for 2,937 crates.
Enroute also developed post-harvest management training and delivered ToT to staff of five agricultural input companies. Through their dealer networks, improved practices reached around 128,000 vegetable farmers and 13,500 fish farmers, helping embed post-harvest knowledge within existing private-sector extension systems.
